Cipollino

Gianni Rodari's novel is a political alegory for children, which became a classic soon after its publication in 1957. The main characters are fruits and vegetables, locked into an eternal battle for a more just society. Cipollino is a little onion, who in the attempt to rescue his father from prison, gets involved in a wider revolutionary movement. The story teaches children not to be afraid of the powerful elite, but to speak up and fight for what is right. Our story does not end in the revolutionary upheaveal like the original, but with peaceful negotiations that launch the new era of peace and prosperity for both sides.
